These mugs are created by applying a clay relief applicay to the outside of a thrown mug. Most of these mugs are single dipped in a brown (Root Beer) or blue (sapphire) celadon glaze, but I am in the process of hand painting some ski mugs. Only certain glazes will react appropriately with the relief to show appropriate detail.
The reliefs are created by first carving the desired design in a plaster blank , thereby creating what is known as a press mold. The, clay is pressed and rolled into the mold.to creat the relief. It is then removed, trimmed, and applied to the mug. Once a workable mold is created, the delicate part is trimming and applying the applica to the mug. All the molds are carved using dremel and hand tools, though I cannot take credit for the original art. Most are from clipart sources.
Unlike most of my other items, I will not display individual mugs, but a sample photo of the mug relief and the number of mugs in that design I currently have on hand. If you want to see specifically what I have on hand in a specific design, send me an email with designating the specific mug design number, to wvpotter@pbppottery.com and I will send you a photo of what is on hand.
